BASIS Vinschgau Venosta is a grassroots social activation hub. It was co-funded by the municipality of Silandro, the Autonomous Province South Tyrol and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It is located in the alpine Venosta valley in South Tyrol. Based in the former dictatorial military barracks “Caserma Druso” in Silandro, the main urban town of the valley, the project presents itself as a successful case study and architectural reuse prototype. The purpose of BASIS is of regional and social development in the areas of economy, culture, education and social affairs. It fosters that by offering spaces, various educational formats, by organizing events and creating active networks. BASIS reused the structure of the former “palazzina” (barracks) to create: a coworking space; 4 residencies for artists, researchers and more; KASINO – a multifunctional event space; meeting rooms; a makerspace; ateliers and workshops. The spaces of the project are currently increasing thanks to the project VERDE which will host a Culinary Academy and the Creative Education Studio. Together with local and international partners, BASIS Vinschgau Venosta wants to give trend-setting impulses and support projects of all kinds. BASIS Vinschgau Venosta thus works at the interface between modern economy, informal education, contemporary art and socio-cultural development. The project aims to spread knowledge about tradition and at the same time global trends in order to develop creative potential. The constructive climate encourages experimentation, strengthens individual responsibility and enables dynamic and resilient growth.
