14.10.2024: Lisa Mazza, Director of BAU - Institute for Art and Ecology will be joining Ways of Becoming from October 17th to 20th at Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella to speak about the future of art residencies and present the Rural Commons Assembly during a module curated by Angela Serino named "L’Utopia presente: un invito a celebrare l’abbondanza del presente e a pensare insieme il futuro delle residenze".
20.09.2024: Designer Flora Mammana, part of La Foresta and co-founder of the Forno Vagabondo has written a beautiful review about the Rural Commons Assembly 2024 for Klimakultur Tirol - a platform connecting art, cultural work and climate protection in West-Austria. Read all about it here.
17.07.2024: We have just uploaded images and a little review of our third nomadic gathering which took place at Somalgors74 in Tschlin, Egadina, Switzerland this year. Have a look here and stay tuned for more information on the future of the Rural Commons Assembly.
10.03.2024: In Spring this year we were invited by Helen Turner and Lucia Pietroiusti to apply for Sites of…Practice, "a yearly programme supporting new practices in response to the polycrisis". Even though we were not selected in the end, we wish participants a meaningful year of learning together and building capacities. We hope to get another chance next year.
14.01.2024: The third nomadic assembly is about to take place at Somalgors74 in Tschlin, Switzerland as four day co-living and co-working experience. The assembly is currently being prepared by Curdin Tones (artistic director of Somalgors74) and Johannes Reisigl (founder of the RCA) with the involvement of member organisations. Stay tuned for more information!
12.12.2023: In March 2023, Bianca Elzenbaumer, Christina Della Torre and Johannes Reisigl of the RCA hosted a workshop as part of the "New European Bauhaus of the Mountains" at Free University of Bolzano. They invited particpants to develop ideas on how to further develop the Rural Commons Assembly and its aim to facilitate trans-local learning as well as develop new ideas for commons-led initiatives in the Alpine region. During various rounds of ideation and refinement, participants had the chance to connect, give feedback, form interest groups based on concrete proposals and affinities as well as define first steps to move towards integration. The ideas regarding the assembly were then incorporated into the Punk Assembly which took place later that year in Rovereto, whilst the commons-led initiatives continued to meet and work on their ideas in collaboration with local organisations across the Alps, focussing on the North Italian region of South Tyrol.
02.05.2023: We‘ve updated our website a little in order to accomodate short reports on both assemblies and renew our participants section. If all goes well, the next nomadic assembly will take place at Somalgors74 somewhen in late Spring 2024. Until then, stay tuned by signing into our participants‘ newsletter or through following their social media channels.
06.11.2022: After doing the math together, we feel happy to announce the date for the next nomadic assembly taking place from Friday, March 3rd to Sunday, March 5th at La Foresta, located in the Italian town of Rovereto, heart of the Vallagarina valley. All former particpants are on board and new ones are about to join!
02.09.2022: Instead of gathering physically, we met for an online apéro to look back on the past year and strategise about possible futures. Stimulated by the first assembly, several of us had been visiting each other in the months after, starting small collaborations or offering each other guidance and support. As one particpant put it: "I feel inspired and more connected to my territory". Based on these shared experiences ever since, the commitement to meet again was renewed. Following a "no money, no problem" approach, participants decided to pool all resources available in order to improvise a next in-person gathering soon. The next nomadic assembly is about to take shape! More updates to follow.
30.06.2022: With great sadness we have to announce the cancellation of our nomadic assembly 2022. Despite the joint efforts of many of us throughout the last months we did not succeed in raising sufficient funding for a 2022 edition. Whilst we all mourn this situation a lot, motivation to meet again is high. We are working on options...
29.10.2021: We are glad to share this little review by Bianca Elzenbaumer and the Rural Community Economies with you. It contains some images of the first nomadic assembly. Make sure to check out Bianca‘s other blog posts as well! In addition, our website has become more colorful as well. Check-out some snippets of visual documentation – beautifully captured by photographer Verena Nagl during the first assembly. And for the ones in a hurry: the first assembly was a success (on its on terms)! Hooray!
23.08.2021: After months of preparations we have finally launched our micro-site. On here you will find relevant information about the Rural Commons Assembly, its concept, program, participants and the related public forum. On the long run, we will also be able to share all tools and formats utilised during the program and more details on potential outcomes and continuations of the assembly.
We hope you find your way around. If you have got any feedback or questions, please let us know by getting in contact. For now we are left to thank Manuela Dasser and Veronica Martini of MarameoLab for the graphic design, coding and their great support!
28.07.2021: For the first nomadic assembly a total of 12 different organisations, various individual practitioners as well as two partners from three countries and five regions including the EUREGIO (Tyrol, South Tyrol, Trentino) and the border areas of Switzerland (Engadin) and Slovenia (Friuli Venezia Giulia) will come together for the first time.
